John Cena
We might not always think of huge wrestlers as having bodyguards, but you can’t be too safe when you’re in the public eye. Plus, John Cena has risen to superstardom out of the ring too.
This bodyguard said they worked with the WWE star, and that he was really kind. Not only was he willing to stop for fans even when he didn’t have to, but he was also incredibly apologetic to the OP for the hold-up. From the sounds of it, Cena seems like a pretty genuine guy!
Shaq
When it comes to people who might not seem like they need bodyguards, you would think that someone as tall as Shaq would make his bodyguards seem tiny.
This person just had to keep fans away from Shaq — but he definitely didn’t miss the humor in protecting someone who probably could have gotten past the crowd in one swift step. It’s not like this bodyguard is short, either!
Eminem
When the Marshall Mathers LP came out, Eminem’s fame grew by the day. Despite that, this bodyguard said that the rapper was nothing but humble and extremely kind.
Still, this person couldn’t help but feel some distaste for how the star’s half-brother used Eminem’s fame to get what he wanted. As for bodyguarding duties, they shared that the fans were the hardest part of his job.
Snoop Dogg
That person who had to deal with Tony Robbins didn’t just have poor experiences when it came to working with celebrities. One stand-out star was Snoop Dogg.
Honestly, it sounds like Snoop Dogg was about what you’d expect — rather chill and well-spoken. Plus, while he wanted a break from fans, he didn’t turn the young ones away. They must have been so excited to get his autograph
Robert Duvall
When it comes to excellent clients, this person has a story they couldn’t help but share — and it comes with a rather positive impression of Robert Duvall!
According to the OP, Duvall was not only really nice but rather detail-oriented! We suppose having a little notebook like this might help you decide what you want to eat on those nights that you just endlessly search the menus of areas closest to you.
Cesar Millan
Let’s step away from the traditional Hollywood celebrities and think about some people who’ve risen to unconventional fame. They need bodyguards, too, when they make it big enough!
This bodyguard’s story was from when they worked for Cesar Millan, the man famous for his work with dogs. We guess it’s no facade that he loves animals if he’s this hardworking and willing to spend most of his time with the animals on his ranch.
Peter Cullen
Even if you don’t recognize the name Peter Cullen, you’ll definitely recognize his voice. He brought to life iconic characters like Optimus Prime and Eyeore!
Just like you would hope from your role models, this bodyguard said that Peter Cullen isn’t only one of the most caring celebrities he’s ever worked with — but also one of the nicest guys they’ve ever met. The only rule here — no swearing.
Bruce Willis
If you watch Bruce Willis’ movies, you might think the Die Hard and Pulp Fiction star wouldn’t need anyone to keep him safe but, again, every big star has bodyguards.
This person had the chance to talk with some of the bodyguards working for the star when Willis was filming in the city. The guards said that their job was a little silly — yet this OP could tell they still really respected their boss. That says a lot!
Kix Brooks
Brooks & Dunn is a pretty famous country band. You’re probably used to associating them with their aesthetic. Could you recognize one of the stars without a Stetson on their head and a guitar in their hands? This person couldn’t, but can you really blame them?
After all, they were just doing their job. A lot of stars might use this as a moment to pull a “Don’t you know who I am?” out of their back pocket, but they said Kix Brooks was honestly rather understanding about the whole situation.
The Mythbusters
If you were a kid with a scientific interest — or just a “see what happens” attitude — you probably tuned into MythBusters. Here, you could see your wildest ideas put to the test.
As a temporary bodyguard, this person had the chance to meet the stars at the massive San Diego ComicCon back in 2009. They say never meet your heroes — but it seems like these two lived up to the hope that they’d be cool!
Adam Lambert
Another famous Adam is Adam Lambert, who you might know from his solo work or his more recent work with the remaining members of the band Queen.
When you hire someone to do a job for you, it’s usually considered rude to tell them to stay as far away from you as possible in this manner. Even if he needed space, it seemed like there are better ways to go about it. Plus, it seems that wasn’t the only incident from that night.
David and Victoria Beckham
When you think of celebrity couples that have become iconic over the years, you might think of David and Victoria Beckham. As a celebrity bodyguard, you probably have to help protect these famous couples from time to time.
This security guard was assigned to work for this iconic pair. According to the guard himself, Posh Spice and Becks were an absolute delight to work for! We don’t know about you guys, but it makes us super happy to learn that the Beckhams are as amazing as we had all hoped.
Fay Wray
Whether you’re a Canadian or American film buff — or just someone who loves a casual movie — you’ve probably seen something featuring Fay Wray.
If you don’t recognize her by name, you’d definitely recognize her work. After all, who hasn’t seen her performance as Ann Darrow in King Kong back in 1933? The title earned her an early title as a “scream queen.” Anyway, it’s nice to know that even stars as legendary as Fay are down-to-earth.
Yoshikata Amano
If you’re interested in visual comics and stories, you might have seen some of Yoshitaka Amano’s work. You might also have been just as interested in this job as the OP.
If you aren’t familiar with his work by name, you can check out his characters in animated shows such as Gatchaman, illustrations for the Final Fantasy series, and even worked with author Neil Gaiman to create Sandman: The Dream Hunters. As with any well-known graphic artist, this security guard had the chance to meet him at ComicCon.
Gwen Stefani
There are some stories from bodyguards that don’t really go into detail about what happened with their clients. Still, you can manage to understand exactly how they felt. Take this post, for instance.
What did Gwen Stefani do that would make someone this upset? Well, we’ll never know. Even so, we get the picture. After all, if this security guard was given another chance, they definitely wouldn’t work for this pop superstar again.
Gavin Rossdale
While we’re on the topic of Gwen Stefani, let’s take a look at her famous ex-husband, Gavin Rossdale. The two were still married when the last security guard worked for both of them.
Obviously, they didn’t have the same opinion of Gavin Rossdale as they had of Gwen Stefani. By this account, Rossdale was humble and pretty laid back when they met — which seems to be at odds with how they perceived Gwen at the time.
Dan Marino
If you’re a football fan, you’ll recognize the name Dan Marino right away. If you aren’t a sports fan, he was the quarterback for the Miami Dolphins for an impressive 17 seasons.
This bodyguard said that when they worked for the athlete, he was a pretty cool guy to work for! Even though it was technically against the rules, Marino made sure to make time for any fans that were there and even came up with a rather fun and tactful way to send fans away if they got to be too much.
Mark Wahlberg
Back in the day, you might not have been able to catch Mark Wahlberg in an action movie — but you could see him working on his musical stylings with Marky Mark and the Funky Bunch. That’s where he was in his career when this OP met him.
Apparently, he was pretty friendly, even if the show itself got a little too intense for a teenager’s first gig. Of course, there’s no better way to end the night than with some delicious fried chicken.
Gene Simmons
If you work at a concert as security for a band, you may be assigned to just one member. This security guard started their night guarding Gene Simmons’s door.
That is until a group ran right into the bassist’s dressing room before the OP could stop them. Despite the fact that the band’s stage manager wasn’t happy that these fans got through, Simmons seemed to be rather forgiving and understanding of the situation.
Paul Stanley
After this security guard was bypassed at Gene Simmons’s door, despite the musician’s lax response to the situation, the OP was moved to a new position. As it turns out, it offered them the chance to meet another member of KISS — lead singer Paul Stanley.
Apparently, he was about as chill as his bandmate. The guard and singer even had the chance to joke and chat for a bit. From the sounds of it, the OP only had a bad experience with the stage manager.
David Arquette
David Arquette is an actor known for a variety of roles, although he might be most famous for the role of Deputy Dewey in the Scream franchise.
This time, though, this bodyguard didn’t have to worry about fans. Instead, it seems like Arquette needed to be protected from a bad idea he came up with on his own. Other than that, it sounds like Arquette was fairly personable.
Weezer
If you’re a indie rock fan, odds are you’ve probably listened to a Weezer song or two. You may have even heard some on the radio, whether you recognize the band or not!
This security guard had the chance to work backstage at one of their concerts. Not only did the band make sure that the security detail was well-fed, but they also took the time to bond with their staff.
Volbeat
As we’ve seen, a lot of celebrity security meet the bands they’re interested in (or not) by working security at a concert. You don’t always meet the artists, though.
This bodyguard had the chance to meet the members of Volbeat when they worked backstage at one of their concerts. They were impressed by their manners and how well they interacted with younger audience members throughout the show.
Rob Zombie
When you think of Rob Zombie, you probably think of his elaborate stage shows tied in with heavy, horror-themed music. He even makes his own horror movies.
However, when this security guard met him, they found that he didn’t have quite the superstar persona they had expected. As it turns out, this horror icon is pretty humble and nice.
The Rich, the Famous, and Their Kids
When you work as a security guard, you don’t always have the liberty to name your clients. This bodyguard wasn’t about to give up any names — but they were definitely going to share their experience.
Working for a very wealthy family, the OP has found that the parent who hired them was kind, funny, and generally a pretty great employer. However, her kid is a different story. This guard said that the entitlement they’ve seen is shocking, even as experienced as they are in the field.
Shopping With an Actress
This is another anonymous story from a bodyguard who wasn’t about to give away their client’s personal information. After all, they were hired to help protect them, right?
However, they were willing to tell us it was an Oscar-winning actress they guarded when they got roped into a new role at work. They said she was nice to them but did seem happy to get away from all of the attention on set.
The Phantom of the Opera
When it comes to the villains in a stage show, if the actor brings them to life as well, you might flinch seeing them come over to you even off-stage. This Phantom wasn’t there for his usual mischief, though.
As for this security guard, not only was this Phantom of the Opera actor nice to them — but he made sure that they had everything they needed. When the security guard went to get cake, the actor was more than happy to fill in his position for a minute. That’s a lot nicer than his character!
It Isn’t Always Easy
We’ve heard a lot of stories so far from bodyguards who were annoyed or disrespected by their clients. On the positive side, some have had a few chill nights. Yet, being a bodyguard means stepping in when danger is close at hand.
This person found themselves in that situation exactly. While it might not have been an interaction that reflected the singer’s personality, it definitely showed them both how dangerous their positions could be.
Adam West
Sadly, that same person who guarded the MythBusters duo also experienced an instance of disappointment when another hero walked into the room at ComicCon — Adam West.
It sounds like the star’s assistant really got the short end of the stick at this event. If you don’t recognize the name, West was one of the first stars to bring Batman to life with the TV show that ran from 1966 to 1968.
Tony Robbins
As an employee of sorts, you don’t always have the room to call your clients out when they’re acting unbelievably rude. That’s the position this person found themselves in when they were working for Tony Robbins.
They said the star was, to start, incredibly particular about everything around him — a trait that definitely extended to the OP’s bodyguard duties. Overall, this doesn’t seem like a fun time at work by any stretch of the imagination.
Some professionals are hired to work with celebrities to protect them. Bodyguards tend to see a lot just as a result of shadowing a celebrity throughout their day. Over time, they develop opinions like anyone would — and these bodyguards couldn’t help but share!
