Those who have ever wondered what being a lion may look like can thank a curious, GoPro-stealing lioness who gave everyone an invaluable insight into her daily activities. The incredible footage was taken by a GoPro camera that belonged to 38-year-old Ahmed Galal before he allowed the lioness to run off with it in the Maasai Mara National Reserve in Kenya, Africa.
A Lioness Stole a Running Camera
Ahmed is from Egypt but was based in the UAE and went to Kenya where he spotted the lioness walking alone. He quickly realized this was a good opportunity to get some unique footage. Ahmed later explained that he wanted to see if she would decide to check out the camera and get some footage. He placed a stick with a camera on top, and the lioness sniffed the stick. She decided to take the camera and run away with it.
The video reveals how the lion saw the stick with the camera and made her way toward it with a cautious step. She looked concerned when she bumped her nose against the lens but quickly felt confident enough to take it between her teeth. The GoPro continued to record as the lioness moved away from Ahmed’s location and recorded as the animal went off on an adventure.
The Camera Took Incredible Footage
The lioness ran swiftly through the grass before stopping to let go of the stick and lie down. The camera fell to the ground, but the lioness soon grabbed the stick back for another run before dropping it again, and Ahmed’s car arrived.
According to Ahmed, he was ‘worried about getting the camera back’ when the lioness first took off with it. Fortunately, he chased her and got the camera back after the lioness dropped it. And though it may have ended up with a few scratches, the GoPro still worked! The best part? The footage gave people a deeper look into how lions live and move through the world.
