Social media blew up recently after a TikToker shared a trick for finding out who called without resorting to Googling them. This hack is very useful because everyone knows how uncomfortable it can be to get scam calls and not be able to distinguish scammers from the delivery man or a friend who’s changed their number.
Who Called?
While finding out who called is important, a Google search can only help in some cases. However, TikTok users now know how to get around that after TikToker Liz Perez explained on the platform how it is done.
Perez was having soup in honor of her birthday and used the time to share her knowledge. Apparently, cold callers and hackers can be disarmed with a simple trick. Just copying and pasting the number onto a cash app like Venmo will show the last name of the caller every single time.
It Doesn’t Work Every Time
Other TikTokers were happy to learn this new trick to recognize who called. One commenter shared how they used the hack to find out who sent them a birthday wish message seven years ago. Others were also grateful to learn this trick, and some shared a similar one, saying that Snapchat can also give that information to users when one saves a number as a contact.
Liz also noted in the comments that while the trick works very well, its not completely foolproof. If you don’t personally use any cash transferring apps, then it obviously won’t work, and it won’t work if they don’t use them either. One TikToker also pointed out how some scammers use fake or gimmick names to avoid being found out. While it may not work every time, it’s still a handy trick to filter out scammy phone numbers.
